Central and Eastern Europe Strengthens Energy Security Through U.S. LNG Cooperation

Issuing time:2026-03-09 22:05

A group of twelve countries from Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans have signed a joint declaration with the United States aimed at strengthening regional natural gas supply security. Participating countries include Romania, Poland, Greece, Hungary and Croatia, among others.

The declaration focuses on expanding cooperation to facilitate greater access to U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG), while also supporting the development of energy infrastructure across the region. The initiative seeks to improve supply flexibility, enhance market integration, and strengthen the long-term resilience of regional gas systems.

For many Central and Eastern European countries, diversifying energy sources has become a strategic priority. Increased LNG imports, expanded terminal capacity, and improved cross-border pipeline connectivity are expected to play a key role in reducing supply risks and strengthening energy stability.

Additional efforts include improving underground gas storage capacity and reinforcing regional energy networks, which together aim to create a more secure and adaptable natural gas market across Europe.
