SK Hynix to Invest $15 Billion in South Korea Semiconductor Facility

Issuing time:2026-03-16 16:06

SK Hynix has announced a major investment of $15 billion to expand its semiconductor production capacity in South Korea, reinforcing its position in the global chip market.

The investment will support the development of new manufacturing facilities within the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, including the construction of multiple advanced clean rooms to enhance production capabilities.

The project is scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2030, with the first clean room expected to be operational by early 2027, ahead of initial timelines. Once completed, total investment in the first fabrication plant is expected to reach approximately $22 billion.

The expansion is aimed at meeting rapidly growing demand driven by artificial intelligence, data centers, and high-performance computing, all of which rely heavily on advanced semiconductor technologies.

This move also aligns with South Korea’s broader strategy to strengthen its semiconductor ecosystem and establish a leading global manufacturing hub.

The investment highlights the increasing importance of semiconductor supply chains as industries worldwide accelerate digital transformation and technological innovation.
